Ewen McGregor is a Pussy

Motorcycle Adventure Travel | Vintage Kentucky Fried Chicken BucketI’m starting to get very anxious and excited. I have two more sleeps before I board the plane for Munich and get this show on the road. I’ve been finishing off every evening by watching a bit of Ewen McGregor and Charlie Boorman’s ‘Long Way Down’ series for inspiration. It’s amazing how much time and preperation goes into putting their trips together. A full administration staff, support crew, camera men, fixers in every country, off road riding training, assault training, outdoor training, potty training... It’s kinda of ridiculous. Of course, I’m the flip side. Buy ticket and go. Maybe write a few inconsequential stories prior to leaving and then take a year to write about each day of my trip. The point I’m tryng to make is I wish I was rich and good looking and could have a support crew do all my thinking for me. I don’t even have time or money to buy a blanket but I did find a small tent at Canadian Tire (A local Canadian hardware plus store) for $16. I would call that disposable at best but as long as it lasts the trip I’ll be happy. You know what? That rant sounded a little pathetic. Let me simplify my wish:

I wish I was rich and good looking!

I’ll settle for rich. Money can buy good looks and if it can’t I can pay people around me to tell me how good looking I am.

I digress. I have less than two days to get on my plane and begin my soon to be ‘Greatest Motorcycle Adventure Ever’. I know once I get on the plane all the stress I have been feeling the last couple of weeks will wash away. I know, it might take a few beers to wash it away but I’m okay with that. I’ve been worried that something may happen that would prevent me from going but I think I have reached terminal velocity and it would be hard to stop me. It’s funny, in a way I have actually enjoyed the stress of the last fortnight. I don’t think it’s much different to how a little kid feels when a trip to Disneyland is coming up. I doubt I’ll be able to sleep tomorrow. Which is a shame because I have an absolutely grueling trip ahead of me and I could use all the rest I can get. I know I won’t be sleeping much on the road.

I still have a couple of odds and ends to take care of but everything is pretty much together. Anything forgotten will stay that way and I will make due without it. Except for insurance... holy!!! I nearly forgot to buy insurance and get a license plate. Wow! Talk about ending your trip before it begins.

Now where did I put my registration papers?
